When I hear or read the words “no sew” my eyes grow bright and my heart swells with hope. Recently, I came across instructions for a no-sew tutu. I resolved to make one for Beatrix because nothing is more darling than a baby girl in yards and yards of tulle with a big satin bow.

Here is the link to the inspiring instructions: Tutu

I used six yards of tulle, divided into three colors. I cut the coordinating ribbon to fit Beatrix’s waist with about a foot of ribbon to spare on either end for the bow. It ended up being around 60 inches long. I cut the tulle into four-inch-wide strips, which I looped around a wide, soft satin ribbon. At first, I was worried it wouldn’t be thick or opaque enough. But I pulled the knots fairly tight and kept them close together, so the end effect was a lush lavender and blue cloud tied ’round her tubby tummy.

I had to trim the excess length, about ten inches off each strip of tulle. I cut them into a point, like a necktie, which looks better than a square blunt edge—it’s softer and has a more floaty effect.

It took about an hour and a half to make the tutu because it took me a few tries to master looping the tulle around the ribbon neatly. It would make a very easy homemade Halloween or dress-up costume. I bought the tulle at JoAnn’s. There were about thirty different colors, so the possibilities are endless when it comes to color combinations.
