I wait until the 7th day of school.
When I got up on the morning of August 18th, 2009, this message greeted me on our whiteboard:
The six big kids posed for the traditional first day photo. Beatrix isn’t in school, but she couldn’t bear to be left out:
Then, they expressed their true feelings about the year ahead:
Where was Archie? He was inside, asleep. No photo of him from that morning, but I’ll share one taken a few days earlier at my husband’s 20-year high school reunion picnic. He was laughing. He has a tooth.
