Ewok Cook-out

Calling all sci-fi geeks:

Hubby stumbled upon Darth Vader’s blog recently, and I thought I would share it here since it is hilarious. I especially liked the posts entitled “Ewok Cook-out”, “Parenting 101” , and “Calgon, Take Me Away”.

Any blog with a line like this is worth exploring:

I will say this for being a tyrannical dark overlord: you get great service at restaurants

I am immersed deeply in geek-culture around here, between hubby, my brother, and my brother-in-law (Nini’s hubby). Horror of horrors, maybe my appreciation of Darth Vader’s blog is a sign that it is rubbing off on me?

Things You Don’t Want Your Husband to Say When He is Searching For a New Home Online

1. It looks like it would be an easy walk to the greyhound races.

2. Where the heck is Thiming?

3. There isn’t an ocean near Colorado, is there? (mistake by google maps found to be the culprit).

4. Whoa.

5. It’s nice, but we would hear “chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-chug-WOO-WOOOO” all the time.

6. Yikes. Sigh.

7. “Master bedroom non-conforming?”

8. Sump pump included.

9. (hubby reading description) Air-conditioning central, ceiling fan, cable installed, corner, covered patio, double-paned windows, deck, disposal, dishwasher, eating space kitchen, fenced, fireplace insert, garden area, garage door opener, gas logs, hot tub, master bathroom, microwave oven, newer paint, pool community, quick possession, RV parking, smoke alarm, self-cleaning oven, satellite antenae, smoke-free, sprinklers/lawn, sunroom, tile floor, utility shed, wet bar, window coverings. Dynamite home decorated to perfection!!! All new vinyl windows, eat-in kitchen with french doors to sunroom with built-in hot tub!!! Huge covered deck, large WD, large mature landscaping! Central air! New paint! Awesome play area, utility shed!! Large fam. room!! Now that I’ve made fun of it, it actually looks like a cool house. But where is it?

10. It’s too modern.

Domino Effect

After a lot of deliberation and after seeking the advice of both professionals and family members, we have decided to walk away from the moldy house. Sammy’s allergies are our first concern. The other concern is even with a massive cleanup project, the mold could come back and we would be liable for that when we try to sell the house someday.

I feel worse for the sellers than for ourselves. Not only were they just told they have a major mold problem, their buyers (us) walked away when they have their new house under contract with some other seller. And what if that seller had a contract on a new house, and that seller was building a house somewhere? I can’t help but think that our decision to walk away creates very unwelcome stress in other people’s lives. But it is mold, and if you believe the internet mold is responsible for coughs, aches, fatigue, the proliferation of nuclear weapons in North Korea, and the breakup of Brad and Jen.

We will go back out this weekend, looking for another place to call home.
