Candy Canes : Christmas

  • I love candy corn with my whole body, so I’m going to have to disagree with you there. I also love egg-shaped bubble gum at Easter, but I’m not sure if it is the representative, definitive candy for that particular holiday. I don’t really care for peeps or cadbury eggs though. You might be onto something here…minus the candy corn.

  • I agree with each one. For sure. I’ll add-

    Jelly Beans : Easter.

  • I am partial to candy canes, but I agree with your theory.

Did you see that Cadbury is now selling their creme eggs for Christmas as “ornament eggs”? Apparently no one is willing to wait for anything anymore.

How could I have forgotten the bad candies of Easter!?

    Jellybeans—vile (kids like them, though)

    Peeps—ultravile

Veronica, I haven’t seen the ornament eggs. That’s a stretch for Cadbury. Smells of desperation. I wonder what they have instead of the iffy yellow yolk center? Candy “yolks” are such a vomitous idea in the first place.

I do like the Cadbury Mini Eggs. I look forward to those every Spring. They are like tulips—a sign of happiness in dreary winter.

  • peeps: easter

    i LOVE candy canes!

  • I’m rethinking every thing I ever thought about you. How can you not like something full of calories and MINT?

  • ooooohhhh…noooo…..I LOVE candy hearts. Yes, I am in the minority, but I gotta tell the truth. Especially the yellow ones. You have to buy the right brand, cuz then they come in different flavors (yellow are banana. yes! they are!)

Candy canes are good too, but in small doses…like melted into hot chocolate, or crushed and sprinkled onto cookies.

See, I get the crushed peppermints thing, Jenni. I love the White Chocolate Peppermint Mochas at Starbucks. It’s a small dose.

But candy canes? No thanks. The only thing they are good for is to suck the tips into even points to make fangs.

    Sorry, Rach! 😉

  • I don’t know if every holiday has a specific candy but they all have some kind of food associated with them. New Years = Black Eyed Peas and Cabbage, Valentines Day = Chocolates and heart candy, St. Patricks Day = Beer, Easter = Peeps and Cadbury eggs, 4th of July = Watermelon and BBQ, Halloween = Candy corn, Thanksgiving = Turkey, Christmas = candy canes and assorted baked goods. Funny how our holidays all revolve around food. I love this country.

Someone Being Me—Black Eyed Peas and Cabbage? Really? I’ve never heard of that.

I do have a holiday/cabbage connection with St. Patrick’s Day. That’s also the day we eat Lucky Charms and corned beef. Not together.

It’s true. You can’t think of a holiday without thinking of food.

  • I’ve never heard of Black Eyes Peas and Cabbage either….

I agree with you almost entirely. Candy corn, peeps and conversations hearts are disgusting, but I kind of like candy canes!

  • The only thing candy canes are good for is evoking sobbing tantrums from my preschoolers when “IT BROKE MOMMY! NOW IT’S NO GOOD! I NEED A NEW ONE!” Getting those things out of the shrink wrap unbroken is no small feat.

  • I LOVE candy corn, and love candy canes in hot chocolate, and love Cadbury eggs…

I wonder where my older son gets his love of all things sugar?

Interesting post, though… I wonder if the reason I like most holiday candies is because I only have them once a year, usually in small doses. I hate the idea of Cadbury ornaments, much as I love the Easter eggs. I hate the mixing of holidays. Like Easter trees.

  • Yeah those candies are bleah. Thank god for baked goods. Pumpkin pie, apple strudel, peppermint cheesecake…

  • I have heard of the cabbage and black eyed peas for New Years. For some reason, it’s supposed to bring you health and wealth. My mother always made it on New Years…and it worked pretty good for the health part but not so much for the wealth part!

Yucky holiday candies. Vile and ultravile are good descriptors of jelly beans and peeps. *shudder*

Lemme have something with peanut butter and chocolate…or dark chocolate!! Yum!

  • I will eat (and pretty much enjoy) anything with sugar. Candy hearts, candy corn, Cadbury eggs, candy canes: love them and eat them all the time. But then again, I’m probably the only person who really enjoys that pregnancy glucose test when you have to drink the sugar drink. I could drink that stuff all day. Yes, I’m a freak of nature.
