Embracing many good gifts ~ Week 8

There was no summer break recap last week. After the Aurora shooting, I felt weird about splashing my blog with pictures of sunny hijinks and memories. So, Week 7 became Mourning with Those Who Mourn.

This past week, I realized school starts sooner than I realized. I wanted to focus on getting back into a routine while still trying to be spontaneous. There’s an acute sense these days of freedom are slipping away in favor of the Crayola boxes and college-ruled paper we see every time we go shopping. I am not in denial that I’m a little in denial.

It’s good to bloom where you’re planted, so we got out of the house to enjoy life where we live. Plus, we had very special visitors! My sister and my niece visited from far, far, far away. Like we-see-them-maybe-once-a-year-if-we-are-lucky-far.

Mini-golfing with Cousin Coco

Brief shady respite from 98 degree day. We took our time on Hole #10.

Lil' Duffer

If you fail to make a hole-in-one on Hole 18, the statue sprays water. Let's just say there were a lot of purposeful bad aims.

This is what happens if your purposeful bad aim actually is a hole-in-one

Post-golf, the big kids raced go carts

Surfside Splash Park, Hot Day #4,000,000,000 of this summer

This dude ignored the water features and opted for hanging in the shade with mama

Shadows

Cooling off. Sort of.

Sunning

Beach blankets looked like a big terrycloth quilt to me...

Why didn't they have these places when I was a kid? We had a sprinkler in the backyard and had to pick grass off our feet when we were done.

Bee kind to bees. We left bee-hind some lemonade on the picnic table.

  • I am so jealous of splashpads! The only one in our town is in the water park, so you have to pay to use it. I am told there is one in a nearby town, but it is at least a 15-20 minute drive. But we do have a neighborhood pool, so I guess I shouldn’t complain.

Splashpads are popping up all over the place. I think it’s because it’s cheaper to maintain that a huge pool. We have a neighborhood pool, but it’s too hard to watch everyone, and too expensive to use often. The funny thing about this new splashpad? They had LIFEGUARDS. That has to be the most boring lifeguarding gig on the planet.

Hooray for visits with sisters! Looks like you had a fun week!

My boy starts school on the 10th (half day). While I’m excited about our new adventure in Middle School, I’m not ready for the carefree days of summer to end.
