Denver has two major amusement parks, Elitch’s and Lakeside.
I prefer Lakeside.
Lakeside is worn and humble and wilting, but it tries.
Colored tungsten bulbs and neon wheeze on at dusk, revealing another age, when Lakeside had glory days.

When I was 4 years old, my parents hired a babysitter for my little sister and whisked me, the big girl, off to the Ringling Brother’s circus. I recall little of the experience. I remember my sister’s babysitter, though. She chewed Juicy Fruit gum and made a cool paper chain out of the silver wrappers. […] I’ve been asked how Aidan is doing, especially since she’s a 7th-grader now. It seems to be a year, when recalled, that makes a certain look pass across faces. It usually isn’t wistful.
